Body Composition Analysis
A proper measurement of fat, muscle and water — the honest starting point for any body plan.
A body composition analysis breaks your weight into what it is actually made of — body fat, skeletal muscle, total body water and an estimate of the visceral fat around the organs. The bathroom scale cannot tell fat loss from muscle loss; this can, which is why weight and shape plans at the clinic start with one and are reviewed against it. The consultation is built around the numbers, not a guess.

How it works
- A very small, imperceptible electrical signal passes through the body via the analyser's contact points
- Fat, muscle and water conduct that signal differently, which is how each compartment is estimated
- Readings are estimates, so conditions are kept similar at each visit — time of day, hydration, clothing
- The consultation is built around the numbers: the doctor reads them with you and the plan is set against that baseline
Sessions & downtime
A reading takes 15–20 minutes including the discussion. It is repeated at each review — typically every four to six weeks — under similar conditions, because the trend across readings matters far more than any single number.
None. The analysis is painless and non-invasive — you stand on the analyser and hold the sensors for under a minute — and you carry on with your day immediately.
Aftercare
- Nothing to recover from — the useful habits are the ones that keep repeat readings comparable
- Book reviews at a similar time of day, ideally not straight after a meal, a workout or a large amount of water
- Keep your reports — the trend across months is the honest measure of whether a plan is working
- Bring the numbers to every review so the plan is adjusted against evidence, not impressions
When we would not treat
- Anyone with a pacemaker or other implanted electrical device — the analyser passes a small current, so we track progress with tape and scale instead
- Pregnancy — readings are unreliable and active weight treatment waits anyway
- Straight after a heavy meal, alcohol or intense exercise — we would rather reschedule the reading than record a misleading baseline

Frequently asked
How accurate is a body composition analysis?
The readings are estimates, not laboratory measurements — hydration, meals and exercise all nudge them. That is exactly why we repeat the analysis under similar conditions and judge the trend across visits rather than any single number.
What will the report actually tell me?
Body-fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, total body water, an estimate of visceral fat around the organs and an estimated resting metabolic rate. More usefully, the doctor tells you what those numbers mean for your plan — that conversation is the point of the measurement.
Do I need one before my consultation?
It is normally the first thing done at a weight or body consultation, so the doctor is planning from your numbers rather than a guess. If you already have recent reports from elsewhere, bring them — a longer trend is more useful, not less.
Does it hurt? Is the current safe?
It is painless — the signal is far too small to feel. As a precaution it is not used with pacemakers or other implanted electrical devices, which is a standard rule for this type of analyser, and we simply measure a different way instead.
What does it cost?
It is part of the weight and body assessment rather than something sold on its own. The consultation fee, and anything included in it, is confirmed when you book — before you come in, not after.
How often should it be repeated?
Once per review cycle — usually every four to six weeks. Measuring more often mostly records hydration noise, not progress, and we would rather show you a trend you can trust.
