Which type do you have?
Identifying the type matters, because each is treated differently.
Extended bikini

Brazilian
The full pubic area, front to back, with or without a strip left. Longer than a bikini line session and priced separately.
Ingrown-prone skin
Recurrent bumps, tender red spots and trapped hairs after waxing or shaving. This is folliculitis and pseudofolliculitis, not acne, and it is the single most common reason people stop waxing and ask about laser.
What causes it
- Normal terminal hair — pubic hair is not a condition, and most people treat it by preference rather than for a medical reason
- Recurrent ingrown hairs, which coarse curly hair in an occluded area is especially prone to
- Folliculitis from shaving, waxing and friction, particularly in Chennai's heat and humidity
- Darkening left behind by years of waxing and razor irritation — that is pigmentation, a separate problem, and it is assessed separately
- Discomfort from regrowth stubble against clothing, which is what brings many people in rather than appearance
What actually helps
Privacy, said plainly
Bikini line and Brazilian work is done in a closed room, by a female therapist, with only the area being treated uncovered. You will be told what is happening before it happens. Laser reduction over a course
Commonly six to eight sessions, four to six weeks apart, with visible thinning compounding from around the second or third. Only follicles in the active growth phase respond to any one session, which is the entire reason for the gap between them — going more often does not go faster.
Shave between sessions, do not wax
Shave the area the day before, or ask and it will be done at the clinic. Waxing, threading and plucking remove the follicle the laser is aiming at, so stop those about four weeks before you start and for the whole course. Shaving does not affect the result at all.
When treatment waits
Active infection, an open sore or a current flare of folliculitis in the area is treated first. Sessions are usually deferred in pregnancy, after recent sun exposure or tanning, and where certain photosensitising medications are being taken — say what you are on before anything is planned. Ingrowns already present often settle as the course progresses, but existing pigmentation is a separate problem with a separate plan.

Is bikini laser hair removal permanent?
No. What laser gives is long-term reduction — hair comes back finer, sparser and slower, and most people need occasional maintenance sessions after the course. The pubic area holds results comparably to other body areas, but nobody should promise you it is done forever.
How much does bikini and Brazilian laser cost in Chennai?
Published prices start from ₹2,500 a session for the bikini line and ₹4,000 for a Brazilian, paid session by session rather than as a package. Most people need six to eight sessions, so it is worth working out the course total before you start.
Does it hurt?
It is felt more here than on an arm or a leg, because the skin is thinner and the hair is coarse. Contact cooling runs through every pulse and most people describe it as a warm snap rather than pain — and near-universally as easier than waxing the same area.
Do I need to shave before my appointment?
Yes, the day before ideally, or ask and it can be done at the clinic. The laser needs to reach the follicle rather than burn surface hair, so an unshaved area either wastes energy or gets rescheduled. Do not wax or pluck — that removes the target.
Can I have a session during my period?
Bikini line work can usually go ahead. A full Brazilian is generally rescheduled, for hygiene and because skin tends to be more sensitive then. Ring ahead and move the appointment rather than not turning up — there is no awkwardness in it at the front desk.
Will laser fix my ingrown hairs?
Usually it helps considerably, because fewer and finer hairs mean fewer to become trapped, and this is the reason many people switch from waxing. It is improvement rather than a guarantee, and any active folliculitis is treated before the course starts rather than lasered over.
