Laser hair removal vs IPL
IPL is not a laser. A laser emits one focused wavelength; IPL emits a broad band of wavelengths from a flashlamp. Both can reduce hair, but IPL is far less precise about what it heats — and on deeper Indian skin that imprecision matters, because a broad band inevitably includes wavelengths that surface pigment absorbs strongly.

- You are buying a home device and understand it is not a clinic treatment
- Your skin is fair and your hair is dark — the case IPL handles best

Is IPL a laser?
No. A laser emits a single coherent wavelength; IPL is a flashlamp emitting a broad band, filtered rather than tuned. Both reduce hair, but they are different technologies, and much of the cheapest advertised “laser hair removal” is IPL.
Is IPL safe for Indian skin?
It is the least predictable of the options on deeper tones, because a broad band inevitably includes shorter wavelengths that surface melanin absorbs strongly. That does not make it dangerous in careful hands, but a wavelength chosen for your skin type is the safer starting point.
Do home IPL devices work?
They can reduce hair on fair skin with dark hair, which is the case they are designed for. They are lower-powered than clinic devices, need far more sessions, and are the least suitable option for deeper Indian skin. Read the device's own skin-tone chart before buying.
Why is IPL cheaper?
Lower device cost and lower running cost, which is passed on. If a quoted price is dramatically below everything else in Chennai, ask which device and which wavelength — that is usually the answer, and it should be given straight.
