How it works

  • The solution loosens bonds between dead surface cells so they shed
  • Clearing that layer helps unclog follicles and lift surface pigment
  • Controlled renewal stimulates fresher skin underneath
  • Strength and contact time are titrated to skin type and response

Sessions & downtime

Usually a course of four to six, spaced two to four weeks apart, then maintenance as needed.

Mild flaking for a few days with superficial peels. Deeper peels involve more visible peeling and are planned accordingly.

Is this suitable for Indian skin?

Deeper skin tones respond well to superficial peels such as salicylic, mandelic and lactic acid. Aggressive or repeated deep peeling raises the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and in melasma specifically it can worsen the condition, so a conservative staged approach is standard.

Aftercare

  • Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen — pigment rebound is the main risk without it
  • Bland moisturiser; let flaking shed naturally without picking
  • Pause retinoids and acids for about a week
  • Avoid steam, sauna and heavy sweating for 48 hours

When we would not treat

  • Active infection, cold sores or broken skin in the area
  • Recent isotretinoin use
  • Pregnancy (some agents are avoided)
  • Recent heavy sun exposure

Frequently asked

Will my skin peel visibly?

Superficial peels usually cause light flaking for a few days rather than dramatic sheeting. The amount varies between people and with the agent used.

Are chemical peels safe for Indian skin?

Yes, when superficial agents are used in a staged course. The risk to manage is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which conservative depth and strict sun protection address.

How many peels will I need?

Typically four to six spaced two to four weeks apart, then maintenance depending on the concern.

Can peels treat melasma?

They can form part of a melasma plan, but melasma is relapsing and needs conservative treatment plus daily photoprotection and maintenance. Aggressive peeling often makes melasma worse.
