GFC Hair Treatment
Growth factor concentrate — a refined preparation from your own blood for thinning hair.
GFC is drawn and prepared much like PRP, but processed to concentrate the growth factors and leave behind most of the cellular debris, which is why sessions are usually described as more comfortable. It is a newer preparation and the published evidence behind it is smaller than for PRP, so the clinical team will say plainly when PRP is the better-supported choice for what you have.

How it works
- Blood is drawn and processed to isolate a concentrated growth-factor preparation
- Removing cells and debris is what makes the injection more comfortable than standard PRP
- It is injected across the thinning scalp at a controlled depth and spacing
- Like PRP it supports existing miniaturised follicles rather than creating new ones
Sessions & downtime
Typically three to four sessions spaced three to four weeks apart, then review. Continuing is decided on the response seen in the photographs, not assumed at the start.
Tenderness at the injection sites for about a day. Normal washing from the next morning, and most people go back to work the same day.
Aftercare
- Leave the scalp alone for the day; wash normally from the next morning
- No colouring or chemical treatment for about 48 hours
- Keep the medical part of the plan going — the injections support it, they do not replace it
- Report unusual pain, spreading redness or fever rather than waiting for the next session
When we would not treat
- Bleeding disorders, or blood-thinning treatment without medical clearance
- Active scalp infection or inflamed skin at the injection sites
- Untreated anaemia, deficiency or thyroid disease — those are corrected first
- Areas bald for years, where there is nothing left for growth factors to act on

Frequently asked
Is GFC better than PRP?
Not automatically. GFC is more concentrated and usually more comfortable, but PRP has the longer track record and the larger evidence base. Which one is recommended depends on your diagnosis and how you have responded so far.
How many GFC sessions do I need?
Usually three to four, three to four weeks apart, then a review on photographs before deciding whether to continue.
Does it hurt?
Less than standard PRP for most people, because the preparation carries fewer cells and less debris. It is still an injection into the scalp and it is felt, especially at the hairline.
Is it safe?
It is prepared from your own blood, which removes any question of a reaction to donor material. The usual injection risks still apply — tenderness, bruising and, rarely, infection.
Will it work for advanced hair loss?
No. Growth-factor treatments support follicles that are still present and miniaturised. Where an area has been bald for years there is nothing left for them to act on, and we will say so rather than sell a course.
Do I still need medication as well?
In pattern hair loss, generally yes. The medical treatment is what holds the ground; injectable sessions are added to it in selected patients.
