If you do one thing for your skin this year, make it this. No exceptions.
We could write about serums, actives and in-clinic treatments — and we do — but none of it matters without this. In Chennai’s UV index, sunscreen isn’t skincare; it’s the foundation the rest of skincare stands on.
Why it matters more here
Chennai sits at a UV index of 9–11 for most of the year — “very high” to “extreme” by WHO classification. For melanin-rich skin, the main consequence isn’t sunburn; it’s pigmentation. Tanning, melasma, post-acne marks that refuse to fade — all are driven or worsened by daily, incidental UV exposure. The commute counts. The window seat counts.
Ultraviolet light also quietly dismantles collagen, which is why unprotected skin ages faster than protected skin regardless of how it feels day to day. Every anti-ageing treatment we offer works better, and lasts longer, on sun-protected skin.
“If you buy one skincare product this year, make it a sunscreen you’ll actually enjoy wearing. The best SPF is the one that gets used.”
Choosing one you’ll actually wear
Look for SPF 50, PA+++ or higher, and a texture that suits your skin — gels and fluids for oily skin, creams for dry. A rupee coin’s worth for the face, reapplied at midday if you’re outdoors. Modern Indian-market formulations have solved the white cast problem; if yours leaves a grey tint, it’s the wrong product, not the wrong category.
And no — makeup with SPF 15 doesn’t count. Think of it as a bonus, never the plan.
